As well as a fantastic college experience, what else does South Shields and the borough of South Tyneside have to offer you?

South Shields is situated at the mouth of the river Tyne in the North East of England and boasts of many attractions including stunning coastal scenery and a wealth of cultural and heritage attractions.

Sandhaven Beach lies south of the pier and proudly holds the distinctive yellow and blue Seaside Flag Award in recognition of its cleanliness and safety. It is cleaned daily and has lifeguard cover throughout the summer holiday season.

The dramatic coastal scenery is complemented by a wealth of historical attractions including Bede's World, which celebrates the life of the world famous Venerable Bede; Arbeia Roman Fort, a Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site and Souter Lighthouse; the first lighthouse in the world to be constructed for electric illumination.

South Shields also has a vast array of restaurants to match a range of culinary tastes, including Indian, Chinese and Italian.

If shopping is your forte, South Shields offers a great range of shops in the main King Street and Waterloo Square areas, offering high street names such as Debenhams, NEXT, Marks and Spencers and BHS. These are situated in recently refurbished pedestrian precincts where you can enjoy your shopping in a safe and spacious environment. There are also plenty of shops nearby in Fowler Street, Ocean Road, the Denmark Centre and Queen Street, catering for all your shopping requirements.

There are great transport links with buses and the Tyneside Metro coming from across the region right into the heart of the town centre. The Shields Ferry runs crossings from the north of the Tyne and there are excellent road links from the A1(M) and A19.

One thing is for certain, whatever your choice, you will not only have fun but you will also find friendliness.
