Students scoop awards at AHT regional finals
Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy students from South Tyneside College have once again proved they are a cut above the rest at the regional finals of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) Awards.
The creative students achieved seven 1st place awards, one 2nd place and one 3rd place at the prestigious competition, held at the Federation Brewery in Gateshead.
The competition, which featured twelve other colleges and schools from across the North East, was also a special day for Katie Allen, aged 19 from South Shields, as she was awarded the coveted Student of the Year Award.
A delighted Katie, a Level 3 Hairdressing Apprentice employed at Hair by Jack in South Shields, said: “I’m really proud to have won the award, it was a fantastic day. I can’t thank the staff at the College and my employer enough for all of the support that I have received.”
Heather Fisher, Curriculum Leader in Beauty Therapy at South Tyneside College, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the results which demonstrate just how much hairdressing and beauty therapy talent there is at South Tyneside College.
“The students have been working tremendously hard over the last few months preparing so they fully deserve these results. I would also like to thank all of the staff involved for their hard work and commitment in the lead up to the competition.”
Andrew Parkes, Curriculum Leader in Hairdressing at South Tyneside College, said: "Hairdressing and beauty therapy at the College has built a great reputation over the years for quality teaching and learning.
“We continually work hard to offer the best training to our learners and results like this demonstrate just how successful we are. It is also important to note the help and support we receive from our Apprenticeship employers when taking part in events like this.”
The winning students will now head to the national finals of the competition in Blackpool on 12th March.
