Thumbs up from Ofsted
South Tyneside College has received praise from Ofsted following a recent focused monitoring visit.
Lindsey Whiterod, Principal and Chief Executive at South Tyneside College, said:
"I am delighted with the outcomes of our recent Ofsted focused monitoring visit which outlined the exceptional progress we have made since our last inspection in 2009.
"Highlighting a few areas from the report, I am particularly proud that Ofsted have recognised the considerable improvements made in the quality of our teaching and learning, and also the progress we have made in outcomes for learners, in particular our improvements in our success rates.
“This report has come at a time when Ofsted is applying stricter grading criteria which has had a significant negative impact upon other colleges both regionally and nationally.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff who were involved in the inspection for their hard work – senior managers, curriculum leaders, teaching and support staff and students.
"I hope the outcome of this report will inspire more students to come to South Tyneside College to fulfil their ambitions and share in our continuing success.”
Louis Waugh, President of the Student’s Union at South Tyneside College, said:
“We are delighted with the Ofsted report and the progress the College has made. It’s fantastic to attend a college that supports the student body and ensures their views are taken seriously.”
David Miliband MP, said:
“As a regular visitor to South Tyneside College, I have seen the campus develop and the provision for students expand. No matter where you go in the world, you will meet someone who has studied at South Tyneside College – so it comes as no surprise that the College has received a positive Ofsted report.
"I would like to congratulate everyone, I know the staff and governors will build upon this report to ensure every student achieves their full potential.”
