Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

Course content:

The course is designed to provide intermediate certification for practising Technicians in areas such as the Mechanical, Manufacturing and Process Industries. The course also aims to develop a wide range of skills and is delivered using various methods which include lectures, tutorials and practical laboratory activities. The theme of Engineering Manufacturing will be integrated across the course, and subject areas are offered to provide a balanced programme of study.
These include:
    · Mathematics
    · Science
    · Primary and Secondary Forming Processes
    · Project
    · Communications

Assessment procedure:

The student will be assessed throughout the course using a range of techniques including tests, assignments, and project work. Assignment are either based on single units, or integrative in nature covering several different areas of work. They are also designed to develop common skills such as communicating, design, self development and team work.

Entry requirements:

The usual entry requirements are:
Four GCSE passes at Grade C or better in subjects including mathematics and preferably a Science.
Or a BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in Engineering.

Progression opportunities:

Successful completion of this course provides direct entry to the HNC, which is viewed by many employers as an essential qualification for practising engineers.
Further qualifications and experience may lead to membership of one of the Professional Engineering Institutions as Technician Engineer (T Eng), or full corporate membership and "Chartered Engineer" status.
