Foundation Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy (NVQ Level 2)
Course summary:
This course is designed to provide a thorough training in beauty therapy at Level 2.
Course content:
This two year course offers a complete training in Beauty Therapy for those people who have decided to specialise in this field.
You will have the opportunity to qualify up to NVQ Level 3 and can acquire the knowledge and skills to practise a full range of facial and body treatments.
The course will cover the following areas:-
Core Mandatory Units
- G20 make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety (ENTO Unit HSS1)
- G18 Promote additional services or products to clients (ICS Unit 10)
- G8 Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
Beauty Therapy General
- B4 Provide facial skin care treatment
- B6 Carry out waxing services
- N2 Provide manicure services
- N3 Provide pedicure services
Plus two optional units
- B8 Provide make-up service
- B10 Enhance appearance using skin camouflage
Course structure:
Trainees will be based at a local, approved commercial salon, and will attend college one day per week to augment the training they are receiving at their work based placements.
Entry requirements:
Although there are no formal entry requirements, trainees must be 16 years of age.
All applicants will have a personal interview at the college and with prospective employers.
Students need to establish their own employment in a salon of their choice.
Qualifications achieved:
Successful trainees will be awarded the Foundation Certificate in Beauty Therapy. This is a National Vocation Qualification (N.V.Q.) at Level 2 awarded by the City and Guilds of London Institute. It is based upon the practical requirements of the beauty industry.
Progression opportunities:
Students who complete their Foundation Modern Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy Level 2 can progress onto the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 3.
There is a constant demand for qualified beauty therapists who have enthusiasm, energy and ability. Career opportunities occur in the following: Beauty Salons, In-store Salons, Hotels, Health Spas, Ocean Liners, Television, Theatre, Salons Abroad, Technical Representatives.
