This programme is designed for adults wishing to explore careers within the education industry. Over the course of the one year programme you will cover theories of education and develop the skills needed to deliver practical sessions. You will also be given a broad understanding of contemporary issues within the education system.

Main aims:

  • To promote the skills required for learner self-confidence and further study

  • To encourage learners to consider a career in education and training

  • To prepare the learner for progression into university

  • Education Theory and Practice

  • Biology

  • English Language and Literature

  • Sociology

  • Statistical and Mathematical Methods

Entry Requirements top

GCSE English and maths at grade C or above and a successful interview with one of the course team.

Assessment top

Assessment is continuous and all assignments are produced by the awarding body Ascentis. Assessment is conducted through a combination of written assignments, reports, practical investigations and externally set controlled assessments and exams.

Professional Opportunities top

Successful learners can either apply to universities through the UCAS system or choose to stay on at South Tyneside College and study on one of our foundation degree programmes. Full advice and guidance will be offered to learners.

Further Information top

Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is for learners aged 19+ who do not have the qualifications required to enter higher education.

The Access to Higher Education programme is delivered over 3 full days at college.
