Have you thought about returning to education but are unsure about what you want to do? Perhaps you are considering working in a primary or secondary school as a teaching assistant, or perhaps you are currently a helper in your child’s/grandchild’s school? This short-course will introduce you to the skills and knowledge you will need to work within the school environment as a support assistant. It is taught in 2 hour sessions that will allow you to gain an insight into the current education system and the role of the teaching assistant.
The programme will be based around the following topic areas:
What is the curriculum and how children learn?
Why is communication important?
How to safeguard children and young people.
Understanding health and safety.
Finding out about equality and diversity.
Displaying and valuing children’s work.
No formal entry requirements.
After completing the course successful applicants may wish to apply for the ‘Helping your primary school child with mathematics’ short-course or the ‘Supporting Teaching and Learning (STL) level 2’ one year programme.
