Overview top

This programme is designed to help you make an informed choice about a career in education or training. You will study a wide range of modules that aim to give you an introduction to education and the many different career paths contained within. Over the course of the programme you will explore areas such as: the role of family learning, understanding young people, supporting a child’s learning, using counselling skills, safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. The programme will also help you to develop your own self-confidence, time management skills, academic research skills and become more computer literate.

Main aims:

  • To promote the skills required for learner self-confidence and further study

  • To encourage learners to consider a career in education and training

  • To reward the achievement of learners for the skills that they have developed

Entry Requirements top

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.

Assessment top

All units are internally assessed using a portfolio of evidence that you will build during the programme of study.

Professional Opportunities top

Successful learners can progress onto various higher levels of study within the college. A range of level 3 programmes are offered by South Tyneside College, including Access to Higher Education pathways. Full advice and guidance will be offered to learners throughout the programme.
