BTEC Applied Psychology Level 3

OVERVIEW

Psychology is the scientific study of minds and behaviour. As such, it is a part of our everyday lives. An understanding of human behaviour is fundamental to many jobs in society, and this course is a broad basis of study for the applied psychology sector.

This course is designed to support progression to Higher Education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels. Taught over one academic year, this course is equivalent in size to one A Level and has 4 units:

  • Psychological Approaches and Applications: using psychological concepts to explain contemporary issues such as aggression in society and consumer behaviour.
  • Conducting Psychological Research: developing skills in the scientific process and research in psychological enquiry by planning and carrying out a research project.
  • Health Psychology: exploring psychological approaches to lifestyle choices and unhealthy behaviour such as stress and addiction.
  • Introduction to Psychopathology: developing knowledge of the characteristics and causal factors of mental disorders and approaches to their treatment

Assessment is by a mix of examination and course work.
