Pre-Access Diploma in Health and Social Care Professions
Level 2

Course Overview

The Pre Access programme is designed for adults who wish to return to education and who currently
do not hold GCSE Maths and English Grade A-C or equivalent levels.

The course is designed to provide an introduction to working in a number of sectors, whilst also
developing more generic employability skills designed to build confidence and help adults return to
education. It gives adults a good variety of knowledge, skills and behaviours which will benefit them on
the Level 3 Access to HE programme (also available at the college). It is therefore a great start for
learners who wish to progress on to the Level 3 Access Programme and who want to embark on a degree
programme.

Alongside the programme, learners will also complete Functional Skills level 2 Maths and English.

Units include:

Personal learning skills
Research Skills
Understanding Disability, Society and Law
Investigating a Career
Personal Confidence & Self Awareness
Presentation software
Understanding Mental Health
Presentation skills
Teamwork
Critical thinking skills
Valuing Equality and Diversity
Communicating Information

English and maths abilities will be measured using a short online assessment prior to being offered a place on the programme.

Assessments are varied and can include written assignments, reports, presentations, posters which are collated together to build a portfolio of evidence.  All units need to be completed to be awarded the qualification.

There are no external exams attached to the programme (except in Functional Skills Maths and English)

Internal progression onto the Level 3 Access programme is guaranteed for all successful level 2 learners.
