City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Systems Maintenance

Overview

Candidates will develop the basic skills and knowledge of vehicle systems needed to move onto the Level 2 course or apply for an automotive apprenticeship or similar engineering pathway. The qualification covers a variety of automotive Body/Paint related areas. The course is split 50/50 over both classroom-based theory lessons and workshop based practical activities.

The Diploma is made up of 11 units including Health & Safety, Manufacturing and Bench/Hand skills, Body Technology, Environment Protection Acts, Basic Body Repair Techniques and panel preparation with foundation materials for Motor Vehicle PSV/HGV, Aircraft, Shipping, manufacture.

As part of the course, you will also take part in an external work placement to help you develop your confidence and skills to stand out from the crowd. 

There is a minimum requirement of a grade D (3) in Maths and English for entry onto the Level 1 course.

The course is portfolio based and is assessed by observation of practical tasks carried out to a set quality standard and by an online exam at the end of each unit.

Once the Level 1 Diploma course has been fully completed, the candidate can move onto the Level 2 Diploma Accident Body Repair Principles, or an apprenticeship if in full time employment.
