AMERC Electronic Principles and Applications Distance Learning is a course of self-study which is a core component of the academic requirement for an ETO Certificate of Competency.
It is also an essential pre-requisite for anyone wishing to attend the college to acquire either the AMERC GMDSS Radio Maintenance certificate and/or the AMERC Electronic Navigation Equipment Maintenance (ENEM) certificate.
As a distance learning course, it can be started at any time and the time to complete the course is dependent upon the effort of the individual candidate but is nominally intended to take 60 hours of study.

Entry Requirements top
Although there are no formal entry requirements, this is an academic course and as such mathematical ability is required.
It is advised that anyone who does not have a level three mathematics qualification should first study the 2nd Engineers Distance Learning Module available from the college – enquire using the ask a Question Link on the right hand side of this page. Successful completion of the Mathematics module will greatly assist the understanding of this topic.
Assessment top
The distance learning course consists of self-study materials and in-course self-assessment and a formal assessment of the 17 topics. Final assessment is by a 2 hour, formal end exam consisting of 12 questions which must be sat at the college. A range of exam date options will be provided upon enrolment.
Upon successful completion of the examination a pass letter is provided by both the college and AMERC which is recognized by the MCA for ETO CoC purposes. A course certificate is not provided by AMERC.
Professional Opportunities top
Anyone who intends to attend the AMERC GMDSS Radio Maintenance certificate and/or the AMERC Electronic Navigation Equipment Maintenance (ENEM) courses will require this qualification before AMERC certification can be issued.
Successful completion of this course is a requirement for the UK Electro Technical Officer Certificate of Competency (ETO CoC).
