This is a 4-week programme to assist students who have already completed their academic underpinning knowledge for Chief Mates to prepare for the Chief Mate MCA/SQA examinations in Navigation and Stability & Structure.

Entry Requirements top

This course is designed for students who have already sat the Chief Mate SQA examinations, for some additional support prior to a further attempt.

There are no specific entry requirements although we recommend that if you would like further support or had particularly poor grades previously then the 10-week preparation course will be more suitable. 

Assessment top

The MCA/SQA written examinations are externally moderated and are hosted within the college.

The MCA oral exam is conducted by MCA examiners at the MCA North East Exam Centre located within the College.

Professional Opportunities top

With further sea service and experience candidates are eligible to enter the oral examination for the Masters (Unlimited) certification. Successful candidates can also progress onto our BSc (Hons) (Top Up) in Marine Operations.
