The Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Digital Media serves as a broad introduction to digital media. Over the course of the year the learners will have an opportunity to learn about the media industry and the many different digital media sectors that make up the industry.

This course is a good starting point for learners who are returning/entering into education or for those with little or few qualifications.

The course focuses on building the foundation skills that the learners will use on various creative media projects, such as shooting films and animations, designing magazine covers, producing a radio show, building a video game and many more. The course is delivered through ten units consisting of:

A1 – Being Organised

A2 – Developing a Personal Progression Plan

A3 – Working with others

A4 – Researching a Topic

DM6 – designing and Interactive Presentation

DM7 – Producing an Advert

DM9 – Creating and Animation

DM10 – Shooting a Short Film

DM11 – Making an Audio Recording

DM12 – Editing and Sharing a Media Product

Entry Requirements top

There are no formal entry requirements for this course as it is designed for those students with little or no qualifications or those who are entering mainstream education for the first time.

All that will be requested is a short interview with a member of the teaching team prior to a place being offered on the course.

Assessment top

The ten units are assessed through Assignments/coursework, which are set and marked by the Media teaching team at South Tyneside College. These assessments will consist of range of projects, practical work, presentations, and written work.

Professional Opportunities top

The BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Digital Media is not designed to lead directly to employment but will maximise opportunities for learners to progress by focusing on the development of transferable and sector-related skills.

Upon successfully completing this course learners may progress onto our BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Skills at South Tyneside College.
