RESITTING YOUR ENGLISH AND MATHS
What you need to do
In line with recent guidance from the Department for Education, all students who want to resit their GCSEs will have the opportunity to sit exams in the November 2020 exam series.
If you would like to resit, you will need to let us know by September 18th by submitting an expression of interest form.
You can do this in two ways:
- Click here to submit your form
- Pick up a paper copy of the form at reception, Student Services or from the college’s exams office. After you have completed the form, hand it back in to Student Services
Advice on resitting
Although all students impacted by the cancellation of exams will have the opportunity to resit, we would strongly advise that you think about how ready you are for the exams. Having missed six months of face to face teaching due to lockdown, students who achieved a grade 1 or 2 could potentially face challenges in covering all of the topics which have been missed. If you feel you are not ready for the exam, or cannot commit the required additional study, it may be best to focus on preparing for the exams in May and June of 2021.
For those who do wish to sit the exam, there will be additional support available in the form of small group teaching, online revision sessions and a subscription to a paid-for revision resource (the college will cover the cost). This is in addition to the normal teaching.
It is important that you fully prepare for this exam after so long away from the college. With this in mind, attendance and engagement with normal and extra lessons will be monitored to make sure you are fully ready for the exam.
This opportunity is only available to students who missed the exam whilst enrolled at the college in 2019/20, and is not available to any students who are starting at the college for the first time in 2020/21. If you are in this group, you should contact the centre where you would have sat the exam in 2020 (whether this be your school or previous college), and they will give you the opportunity to resit in November.
The Department for Education has made it clear that the above does not apply to Functional Skills, and is only applicable to A Levels and GCSEs.
