Maritime experts in South Tyneside have hailed their role in making the North East the UK leader in high level skills training around a new ‘highway code’ of the planet’s coldest seas.

Daring teenage television show host Danny Murphy created a tremendous splash when he took the plunge to film an episode of his latest challenge series at South Shields Marine School’s Marine and Offshore Safety Training Centre (MOST).

Danny, who has born deaf and uses British sign language to converse with his audience, underwent thrills and spills in front of the cameras for CITV’s new DareMaster show.

Crucial fire safety expertise has been saved in the North East after South Shields Marine School stepped in to employ experts made redundant with the closure of a specialist training unit.

The Marine School plans to bring in-house the training for Merchant Navy and offshore oil and gas workers that it previously contracted to Impeller Assurance & Resilience, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service’s commercial partner.
