Maritime experts in South Tyneside have hailed their role in making the North East the UK leader in high level skills training around a new ‘highway code’ of the planet’s coldest seas.

Their work at world-leading South Shields Marine School means it is the first and only centre in the land to develop training which verses ships’ officers and crews in all aspects of the Polar Code.

Daring teenage television show host Danny Murphy created a tremendous splash when he took the plunge to film an episode of his latest challenge series at South Shields Marine School’s Marine and Offshore Safety Training Centre (MOST).
