BTEC (Year One) Diploma in Creative Games Design

OVERVIEW
Wondered what it takes to develop video games? Our Level 3 Diploma in Creative Games Design is designed to give you the chance to explore the various disciplines of games development such as Design, Art, Programming and Animation. To help you explore these areas, you will have access to the latest gaming tech alongside a list of software used to produce AAA games. We work with the latest industry standard software including 3DS Max, Photoshop, Game Maker and Unreal engine; ensuring you will be industry ready when you finish the course.
The video games industry is one of the fastest growing creative industries in the UK, which is now estimated to be worth $178.73 Billion worldwide in 2021. With the arrival of the next generation of games hardware and ever-growing mobile gaming platforms, the games industry is bringing exciting new opportunities for those who wish to work in an innovative and creative industry. If you are a gamer looking to take the leap from player to developer our course in Games Design is an ideal way for you to begin building your game development skills and start on your own career in the industry.
Entry requirements for this course are five GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above, including Maths and English.
Alternatively, a full level 2 qualification in an appropriate subject (such as Creative Digital Media) will also gain entry to study this programme.
*It would be beneficial for the applicant to bring a Portfolio of Creative work to show at the interview process.
The program is coursework based and delivered through two assessments focused around exploring and developing creative media skills:
- Unit A1 – Skills Development
- Unit A2 – Creative Project
All evidence produced for assessments is based on large practical portfolios of work which you will build and update across the academic year.
Learners who successfully complete the course will have the opportunity to progress onto the second year of the level 3 programme, the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative games Design.
Some Learners may also progress into employment in the media or Games sector via apprenticeships.
Learners will have opportunities to develop their skills through Game Jams and Showcases throughout the year. Learners will also be given the opportunity to attend events across the country at Esports events and college trips
