Studying this course, you will achieve the Level 4 HNC (Higher National Certificate) in Games Development, which is the equivalent to the first year of a degree.

Click here to applyTo study this programme, you will typically need one of the following:
- A Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area (e.g. Games Development, Media, Art and Design)
or - Three A-Levels, preferably including one in a related subject area (minimum grade C)
- Access to HE: Level 3 Access course in a relevant subject with a minimum overall Pass grade
In addition, it is essential that you hold:
- GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above, or an equivalent Level 2 qualification such as Functional Skills.
Applicants who do not meet the full entry requirements may still be considered. This will be based on:
- A successful interview with the course leader.
- Demonstration of potential and commitment to the subject.
*All applicants are expected to present a Portfolio of Creative Work as part of the interview process.
The Course is broken down into two modules.
- A1: Concept and Development
- A2: The Creative Project
In A1 Concept and Development, you will be assessed through several portfolio building assignments all focused around developing your skills in a specific field of Games Development, such as:
- Lore Craft – Tabletop Gaming and World Building
- Model Verse – 3D Modelling
- Pixel Quest – Level Design and Programming
- Art style Odessey – Concept art
- Industry Insights – Gaming Industry Research
In A2 The Creative Project you will be assessed through one practical assignment where you will have the opportunity to use your creative skills that you have developed in A1 and produce a playable 2D or 3D game demo.
Students who pass this course may progress onto the BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) in Games Development, which is also delivered at South Tyneside College.
Alternatively, learners may apply and progress to University or employment.
