To study on the Level 5 HND in Games Development, you must have successfully completed:

  • A Level 4 HNC in Games Development (from South Tyneside College or another recognised institution)

To ensure the course is the right fit and to assess your creative potential, all applicants — including those progressing from other institutions — must also:

  • Attend an interview with the course team
  • Complete an interview task
  • Present a portfolio of creative work relevant to games development

Maths & English Requirements

You must also hold:

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above, or an equivalent Level 2 qualification (e.g. Functional Skills)

The Course is broken down into two modules.

  • B1: Personal Professional Development
  • B2: Professional Project

Both modules are assessed through portfolio building assignments.

In B1 Personal Professional Development you will explore both the creative and technical aspects of your own work and your future career intentions; developing projects and professional skills and materials that will enable you to progress to employment or continued study.

In B2 Professional Project you will build on your creative, technical and contextual knowledge and skills to apply them to more complex and professionally orientated work.

Students who pass this course may progress onto a University to top-up their HND to a full degree in Games Design or Development. Alternatively, you may enter into employment following the completion of this course.

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) in Games Development is designed for students who have successfully completed the Level 4 HNC in Games Development or an equivalent qualification.

Please Note:

  • UCAS tariff points, A-Levels, Access to HE Diplomas, Scottish Highers, and unrelated Level 3 qualifications are not applicable for direct entry to the HND programme.
  • Entry from HNC programmes completed elsewhere will be subject to a review of content and curriculum compatibility.
