Access To HE Diploma (Computing)
Level 3
OVERVIEW
The Access to HE Diploma in Computing is a one-year, full-time Level 3 course designed for adults aged 19+ who are looking to progress to university but may not currently hold traditional qualifications. This qualification provides a recognised route into a range of computing-related degrees and higher-level study.
This fast-paced programme prepares you for higher education through a combination of subject-specific and academic study skills units, tailored to meet the demands of university-level learning.
- GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above (or equivalent Functional Skills Level 2)
- This is an adults-only course (19+)
- Applicants will be required to complete an initial assessment and attend an interview to determine suitability for the course
Learners will be assessed through a combination of written coursework, practical projects, and controlled assessments. There are no final exams, allowing for continual assessment throughout the course.

This Access to HE Diploma in Computing is designed to help adult learners progress into higher education and ultimately into a career in the digital and technology sector.
Upon successful completion, students will have the academic skills and specialist knowledge needed to apply for a wide range of university-level courses, including:

- Software Engineering
- Web Development
- Networking and Infrastructure
- IT Management
Many learners progress internally to university-level study at Tyne Coast College, including our HNC/HND Computing programmes, which offer a practical and affordable route to a full degree.
This qualification is widely recognised by universities across the UK. However, students are advised to check individual university entry requirements for their chosen degree to ensure eligibility.
The course also supports progression into higher-level apprenticeships or entry-level employment in IT-related roles, particularly for those looking to earn while they continue their studies.
The course starts annually in September and runs until Jun (approximately). This will be confirmed at enrolment.
The Access To HE Diploma (Computing) is funded through an Advanced Learner Loan. Any students
under 19 without a level 3 may be eligible for funding.
