BTEC Award in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Level 3

Overview

The engineering sector is growing both locally and nationally, and is a government priority area.

There is currently a skills gap in the market for qualified engineers in manufacturing, mechanical, and electrical and electronics.

Salaries for qualified engineers can range from £30-£45K depending on the industry role.

This course is a two year programme split into two single years. The first year establishes the core elements of engineering disciplines such as maths, electrical & electronic principles, mechanical principles, engineering materials. Learners can change route after year one, moving into employment or advanced apprenticeship. The second year (Diploma / Extended Diploma) becomes more specialised in your chosen engineering pathway.

Pathways are:

  • Electrical and Electronic
  • Mechanical
  • Manufacturing.

This course is designed to provide highly specialist, work-related qualifications in a range of vocational engineering sectors. Learners will gain the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment, or enter higher education.

The course is suitable for school leavers with good academic GCSE results, but can also appeal to adult learners with equivalent qualifications or industrial experience on a part-time day basis.

We know that having good qualifications alone doesn’t always make you stand out.

That’s why we’re all about going the extra mile with you.

Studying with us means practical, hands-on workshops, group sessions, expert guest speakers, visits to local employers, wellbeing drop-ins, chill out time … the list goes on.

As part of the course, you will also take part in an external work placement to help you develop your confidence and skills to stand out from the crowd.

Five GCSEs, grades A*-C (9-4) including English and maths.

Physics is desirable but not essential.

Learners will have a discussion with the course leader to explain the course in more detail.

Learners will be assessed through written assignments for all units.

Each unit within the qualification has specified assessment and grading criteria of pass, merit, distinction.

The final qualification is graded overall pass, merit, distinction.

On successful completion of the subsidiary diploma / 90-credit diploma learners can progress onto the second year diploma / extended diploma, employment, or an advanced apprenticeship with an employer.

Successful completion of the second year allows progression into higher education such as BTEC HNC/D and undergraduate engineering degree qualifications (Note: entry requirements for universities vary, therefore if university is your planned destination please check what you require to ensure you choose the right level 3 course).

You could also progress into employment, or an advanced apprenticeship with an employer.
