BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Skills
OVERVIEW
Have you ever wanted to be a Film Director, Games Designer, Journalist or Radio Presenter, if yes then this course might be the perfect starting point to begin your career?
This course is an excellent introduction into the creative media industries. The assignment and projects that you will undertake will give you a chance to experience what it is like to make video games, short films, and radio and TV shows and more. The purpose of our Diploma in Media Skills is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to begin their career in the media industry while working with industry standard equipment and software that is used within in the industry today.
The Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media skills is a one-year course and is the equivalent of three GCSEs if successfully completed. This course is designed to be studied alongside Maths and English qualifications and is perfect for those still working towards their GCSEs in Maths and English.
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 (D) or a qualification at level 1.
You may be considered for this course without the above entry requirements; however, this will be subject to an interview with the course leader. Please contact us to discuss your options.
Units 1 and 8 are assessed through examinations set and marked by the awarding body. The remaining eight units are assessed through Assignments/coursework set and marked by the Media teaching team at South Tyneside College. These assessments will consist of range of projects, practical work, presentations, and reports.
Students who pass this programme may progress onto one of our many Level 3 programmes in Media Practice or Games Design.
Alternatively Passing this course will open many opportunities for apprenticeships within sectors relating to media.

For students aged 16-18 who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in Maths or English, these subjects will be included in your timetable along with your main course. Improving your skills in Maths and English is essential, as these qualifications open doors to further study and career opportunities.
Our teaching team will work with you to help you achieve the grades you need, building confidence in these key areas to support your future success.
All 16-18 students must study maths and/or English as part of their main study programme, there is no option to study maths and/or English on its own.
