This course is designed for those who have passed Venue Performance and Studio Skills Level 4 (HNC Music) or another similar Level 4 music qualification.

Progression-only course: This is not for students entering directly from school/college; it is for those who have already completed a Level 4 qualification in music.

To ensure the course is the right fit and to assess your creative potential, all applicants — including those progressing from other institutions — must also:

  • Attend an audition with the course team
  • Complete an interview task

Assessment involves a variety of methods, including case studies, observations or practical work, assignments, time-constrained assessments, and work-based projects. All outcomes of your program are evaluated, and each unit below will be graded as pass, merit, or distinction.

A pass is awarded for meeting all specified assessment criteria, while merit and distinction grades are given for higher-level achievements.

Units include:

  • Unit 31 Creative Music Project
  • Unit 36 Advanced Music Event Management
  • Unit 40 Mixing and Mastering
  • Unit 46 Musical Direction in Practice
  • Unit 47 Advanced Performance Techniques
  • Unit 48 Lie Arrangement Techniques
  • Unit 55 Musicology

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma allows students to specialise by committing to specific career paths and progression routes to degree-level study.

On successful completion of the Level 5 Higher National Diploma, students can develop their careers in the music sector through:

  • Entering employment
  • Continuing existing employment
  • Committing to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Progressing to university – The Level 5 Higher National Diploma is recognised by Higher Education providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant Music-related courses.

Students will be expected to contribute a small fee to the cost of the Cavern Club, Liverpool performance as part of their performance assessment.
