CACHE Diploma Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings Level 1

OVERVIEW

This qualification will help you to develop the knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s sectors. It includes the roles played by workers in the sector – from principles and values through to health and safety and working with others.

The qualification is appropriate for anyone considering a career in health and/or social care with adults or children and young people.

Studying the Diploma allows  the option to take units in more specialised areas such as learning disability, sensory loss or mental health.

Study Programmes

Changes to the way the Government funds courses for students aged 16 and over means that instead of a single course, students are required to complete a full time Study Programme (whether they come to college or stay on at school)

This means:

  • All 16- to 19-year-olds will be offered high quality study programmes aimed at giving them the best opportunity to move into higher education or secure skilled employment.
  • All students who are able will take a substantial qualification recognised by employers as being of real benefit to them in securing work or a university place.
  • Where appropriate, students will also take part in work experience.
  • Students who don’t have a GCSE in English and maths at 16 will continue to study these subjects after 16.
  • Students who aren’t able to study a qualification will take a programme of work experience focusing on developing their employability skills, along with work to develop numeracy, literacy and other core education skills.

If you decide to continue your studies at South Tyneside College your study programme will look like this

  • A main qualification: CACHE BTEC Level 1 – Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
  • Preparation for the world of work leading to work placement and enterprise
  • Enrichment activities such as visits, sports activities and enterprise
  • Continuing of English and Maths to at least GCSE level for those who need to do so

A range of GCSE subjects at grade D-G (3-1) and an interview with a member of the Health, Care or Early Years staff.

You will be assessed by your tutor using a range of methods. This will include tasks set by CACHE such as designing charts or leaflets and coursework.

On successful completion, with appropriate attendance and attitude to learning you could progress to the CACHE Level 2 Certificate in supporting teaching and learning with the appropriate maths and English grades or the CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Healthcare Support in the 21st Century.

Potential employment opportunities could include playgroup or mother and toddler group assistant or assisted support in a care environment. Candidates should note that further training in any health, social or child care setting is expected after a level 1 programme.
