City and Guilds Certificate in Engineering Level 1

Overview

This course is for 16-18-year-old students, with an interest in Engineering, welding, sheet metal work or hand fitting skills.

This programme covers the fundamental skills and knowledge common to all engineering practices.

This programme focuses on practical skills and knowledge, where learners will gain practical experience and understanding of welding and fabrication including MIG welding, sheet metal working and hand fitting skills.

GCSE maths – grade 2

GCSE English – grade 2

Unit 101 Engineering will be assessed by a multiple-choice online exam.

For units 102 (hand fitting), 108 (sheet metal) and 110 (MIG Welding) learners will produce practical test pieces which will be assessed by the lecturer. There will also be a short paper-based exam for each unit.

This qualification can lead to progression on to the EAL PEO Level 2 or City & Guilds Welding Skills Level 2 (2850 Fab & Weld).

For students aged 16-18 who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in Maths or English, these subjects will be included in your timetable along with your main course. Improving your skills in Maths and English is essential, as these qualifications open doors to further study and career opportunities.

Our teaching team will work with you to help you achieve the grades you need, building confidence in these key areas to support your future success.

All 16-18 students must study maths and/or English as part of their main study programme, there is no option to study maths and/or English on its own.
