Pearson Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) – Level 4 HNC in Public Services (Criminology pathway)
Overview
This specialist pathway will equip students with public service and criminological skills, knowledge and the understanding necessary to achieve high performance in the global public services/criminal justice environment.
One objective of this programme is to provide education and training for a range of careers in public and criminal services, including, for example Civil Service, public administration, police force, prison service and the charity and voluntary sector. Successful completion will equip students with the knowledge and understanding of culturally diverse organisations, cross-cultural issues, diversity, and values.
This course is full-time, specific times/days will be discussed at enrolment.
Successful completion will also provide opportunities for students to enter or progress in employment in public services, or progress to higher education qualifications such as an Honours degree in Criminology, Policing, Applied Social Sciences, Public Services Management, or a related area.
The Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a Level 4 qualification made up of 120 credits. It is studied full time over 1 year using a hybrid delivery approach to offer more flexibility to learners.

The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them.
On successful completion of the Level 4 Higher National Certificate, students can develop their careers in the public services sector through:
- Progressing to Level 5 (HND)
- Entering employment
- Continuing existing employment
- Linking with the appropriate Professional Body
- Committing to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Progressing to university
