HNC in General Engineering Level 2
OVERVIEW
Students will gain a wide range of scientific and engineering knowledge linked to practical skills obtained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills.
Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace.
By the end of Level 4 study, students will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of engineering. They will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as in general skills and qualities relevant to these key areas of engineering.
This part-time course will take place once a week, on Wednesdays.

Assessment is carried out through a mix of internally assessed assignments and a Pearson-set (externally marked) project. Practical workshop activities, theory-based tasks, and online assessments are used throughout, with a strong emphasis on health and safety practices embedded in all aspects of the course.
Successful completion of this course can lead to direct employment in the engineering sector or further study at a higher level. Learners may progress to a Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) in Engineering or enter the second year of a relevant university degree, depending on the institution and course.
