NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings

OVERVIEW

This qualification provides learners with the knowledge and understanding essential to the early years and childcare sector and supports progression to further learning or the workplace.

This qualification aims to provide an introduction at Level 2 for learners into both early years and primary settings.

The objective of this qualification is to support learners as they develop their knowledge, understanding and skills when caring for and supporting the learning and development of children aged 0–11 years, 11 months.

A placement element is attached to the programme and it is recommended learners complete AT LEAST 200 hours. Placement experience will be undertaken in both an early years setting and a primary school.

As part of the course, you will also take part in an external work placement to help you develop your confidence and skills to stand out from the crowd. 

3 GCSE’s 9 – 4 including Maths and/or English.

Depending on qualifications learners may be able to access NCFE CACHE Level 1 Diploma in

Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings.

The qualification is internally assessed and graded by a pass/merit/distinction. There is also a mandatory Professional Skills Record (PSR) which must be completed during the work placement.

There will be set tasks to complete in each setting, and staff can allocate the number of hours in each setting at their own discretion. Work placement achievement will be graded Achieved or Not Yet Achieved. An occupationally competent Tutor/Assessor will be required to visit each setting at least once.

The qualification allows learners to progress onto the Level 3 T Level TQ in Education and Childcare (Early Years Educator) which then enables learners to access Higher Education or progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors such as:

• Early Years Educator

• practitioner in day nurseries

• practitioner in nursery schools

• practitioner in reception classes in primary schools

• pre-school worker

• home based child carer

• nanny

While completing this qualification, learners may develop the knowledge, understanding and essential skills employers look for in their employees. These range from familiar skills, such as team working, independent learning, problem solving, and using your own initiative, and other expected work practices, such as:

  • exemplary attendance and punctuality (95-100%)
  • appropriate behaviour, including non-use of mobile phones in class and at placement
  • appropriate dress in the workplace, including always wearing identity lanyards respectfully communicating with placement and college staff and peers supporting others; children in placement and others in college personal good manners and self-presentation understanding work practices and how internal and external roles function within a school and college organisation.
