NCFE CACHE Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner
Level 2 (19+)
OVERVIEW
The aim of this part-time course qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years. The qualification content meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.
This qualification is ideal for learners looking to work with children between birth and 5 years, and gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years.
*The next course intake will start on Wednesday 6th November, 2024.
Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement to show competence in both knowledge and skills. Placement opportunity must allow for skills application with babies and young children sufficient to meet the assessment criteria for the qualification.
Learners study 14 mandatory units including;
- Roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner
- Understand how to support children’s development
- Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings
- Promote play in early years settings
- Support the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
Although it is desirable that learners have experience of working with children, learners do not need to have previous experience or qualifications in working with children to undertake this qualification.
All units will be internally assessed using a range of assessment methods including a portfolio of evidence. Skills based outcomes must be achieved with reference to a real work environment and must include direct observation within the workplace.
This qualification allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce or continue to study for a Level 3 Diploma holding Early Years Educator status.
Learners may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:
- nursery practitioner
- classroom assistant
- pre-school practitioner
This course will take place on a Wednesday (3 hours a week) in college from 10.45am – 14.30pm.*
You will also be required to complete a work placement for 1 day in a nursery setting.
*This course needs a sufficient number of enrolments to run and you will be notified of any changes in advance of your course starting.
