PEARSON BTEC Level 5 HND IN ART AND DESIGN (ART PRACTICE)

OVERVIEW

HND In Art and Design leads on from the HNC Art and Design Practice. The year consists of six units, three units are mandatory with one being Pearson set. The remaining specialise in pathways in art practices.

HND continues to build on the academic and practical skills they have achieved on the HNC programme. During this year, students will develop their use of materials and processes through an investigation in conceptual practices.

By the second year of the programme, learners will demonstrate advanced art practices at a professional standard, collaboration with practitioners in industries building networks appropriate to their specialist area. During the HND learners will have autonomy over their working practice and will further develop their professional skills. Students will practice and deliver seminars, workshops, and exhibitions, showcasing their knowledge and abilities.

Students will curate several exhibitions throughout the year and will end the year with a final showcase of their work. The HND programme includes support and guidance on applying to universities or looking for employment as part of a Professional Practice unit.

A Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Art and Design is an entry requirement for our HND programme. It is essential that you have achieved a grade 4 (C) in GCSE English and Maths to study this programme.

You may be considered for this course without meeting some of the above entry requirements; however, this will be subject to an interview with the course leader. Please contact us to discuss your options.

*The applicant should bring a Portfolio of Creative work to show at the interview process.

The course is based around several projects throughout the year, and while we teach you the theory to give you a thorough understanding of the Art and Design industry you are assessed on your assignments and practical projects that you will undertake across the course of the year.

The course is delivered through a series of 6 units. Units that will be taught on this course are:

Unit 32 – Professional Practice
Unit 33 – Applied Practice Collaborative Project (Pearson Set)
Unit 40 – Advanced Art Practice Studies
Unit 48 – Conceptual Practice
Unit 50 – Material Selection and Specification
