Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) in Creative Media Production (Film)

Overview

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Creative Media Production (Film) is for students who have completed the Level 4 HNC in Creative Media Production (Film) or equivalent qualification. In the HND you will continue to work on a variety of practical projects all aimed at developing your skills in a specific element of filmmaking. The units you will study on this course are:

  • Unit 6 – Collaborative Project
  • Unit 7 – Personal Professional Development
  • Unit 39 – Advanced Film and Television Studies
  • Unit 53 – Drama
  • Unit 56 – Documentary
  • Unit 67 – Scriptwriting for Film and Television
  • Unit 86 – Film Criticism

You will continue to work with industry standard cameras from Cannon, Sony and Blackmagic Design, as well as work on professional software such as Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe After effects and Dragonframe. This course will teach you the essentials of film-making utilising industry standard equipment and software in all aspects of the course.

The course is based around several projects throughout the year, and while we teach you some theory to give you a thorough understanding of the film industry. You are assessed on your practical projects that you will undertake across the course of the year.

Studying this course, you will achieve the Level 4 HND (Higher National Diploma) in Creative Media Production (Film), which is the equivalent to the first two years of a degree. Studying BTEC Higher Nationals is significantly cheaper than going to university but also offers the same quality of teaching and learning that you will expect to find on a HE course/programme at university. There are lots of freelancing and work experience opportunities available throughout the year and you will have access to our facilities outside of scheduled lessons, giving you time to work on personal and assessed projects.

Students can apply if they have the HNC in Creative Media (Film).

Each unit is assessed through a set Assignment once teaching has taken place. These take a holistic approach and will allow you to fully apply what you have learned during the unit. Assignments consist of a mixture of written essays, presentations and practical projects including individual and group projects. All assignments are set and assessed internally by the Games development teaching team.

Students who pass this course may progress onto a University to top-up their HND to a full degree in Games Design or Development. Alternatively, you may enter employment following the completion of this course.
