Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) in Creative Media Production (Game Design)

Overview

Games development is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. During this course you will learn how to design and develop professional quality digital games, utilising the latest industry standard technology and techniques.

Using the latest games development software including, Unreal Engine 5, GameMaker and 3ds Max, you will learn game design principles and put them into practice building your own working prototypes. These help to build a portfolio of working examples to demonstrate at interviews to aid progression into the industry or help to gain a university place.

The HND in Creative Media Production (Games Development is a follow-up to the Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Creative Media Production (Games Development), therefore it is essential that you have achieved this qualification before undertaking the HND.

*The applicant should bring a Portfolio of Creative work to show at the interview process.

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development) is for students who have completed the Level 4 HNC in Creative Media Production (Games Development) or equivalent qualification. In the HND you will continue to work on a variety of practical projects all aimed at developing your skills in a specific element of games design. The units you will study on this course are:

  • Unit 36 – Collaborative Project
  • Unit 37 – Personal Professional Development
  • Unit 44 – Advanced Games Development Studies
  • Unit 46 – Advanced Rendering and Visualisation
  • Unit 48 – Mobile Game Development
  • Unit 61 – Advanced 3D Modelling
  • Unit 75 – Environment and Level Design

Students who pass this course may progress onto a University to top-up their HND to a full degree in Games Design or Development. Alternatively, you may enter into employment following the completion of this course.

You will also have access to our Games Design facilities reserved specially for our students studying our HNC/HND courses in Games Development. You may access these outside of scheduled lessons, giving you time to work on personal projects and assessments.

Learners will have opportunities to develop their skills through Game Jams and Showcases throughout the year. Learners will also be given the opportunity to attend events across the country at Esports events and college trips
