South Tyneside College and South Shields Marine School are moving into an important next phase of redevelopment as Miller Homes prepares to begin initial works on the existing campus site.
Following the completion of the land sale, Miller Homes have commenced Phase 1a works. This activity has seen the installation of fencing around the field adjacent to the halls of residence, and the Marine School staff and student car park. Additional service infrastructure will also be introduced, along with the creation of a new access road from Grosvenor Road.
All work will be fully contained within the construction boundary, ensuring no disruption to access for staff or students.
Planning permission for a new housing development on the site was originally granted last year. Miller Homes has since submitted a revised planning application seeking to reduce the number of homes and increase the amount of green space, including new areas of communal parkland for future residents.
The statutory consultation period for this revised proposal is now live.
