About the Show
South Tyneside College is proud to present Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief – The Musical, brought to life by a dedicated group of Performing Arts students from Level 1, Level 2, National Diploma, and Extended Diploma courses.
Based on the popular novel by Rick Riordan, this high-energy musical follows the adventures of a modern demigod and his quest to prevent a war among the gods. This full-scale production is the result of months of hard work, creativity, and collaboration by our students.

Student-Led & Community-Funded
This production is more than a performance – it’s a social enterprise project. Students have taken full ownership of the show, working on:
- Acting and choreography
- Costume and set design
- Technical production
- Marketing and press relations
- Fundraising and community outreach
Students such as Emily Angus, Holly Dawson, Michael Pedley, Amelia Smith, Madison Berry, and Carlie Powell have helped raise over £1,500 to bring the show to life. Through community raffles, local performances, and support from organisations like Our 1 Community, they’ve demonstrated exceptional drive and teamwork.
Special thanks to our raffle donors:
Williams Carpet Clean, Sumptuous Beauty, The Criterion, Dicksons, Barbour, Enchanted Delights, Paula’s Creations, and JB Hair.
Real-World Experience
As part of their coursework, students have worked with Affinity Radio to produce a professional radio advert and secured press coverage in the Shields Gazette, led by learners as part of their Unit H module.
They also successfully acquired the rights to stage the musical from Concord Theatricals, giving them a valuable opportunity to experience industry-standard licensing and production planning.
A Life-Changing Experience
Our Performing Arts department is built on inclusion, creativity, and confidence-building. Student Carlie Powell reflects:
College has been life-changing. Performing Arts is so much more than singing, acting, and dancing – it’s opened up so many new talents and confidence in myself that I never thought possible.
Join Us
Come and support our students and see the results of their incredible work. Whether you’re a Percy Jackson fan or simply love supporting young creative talent, this is a performance not to be missed.
