INSPIRE AND INNOVATE: STAFF SHARE GOOD PRACTICE AHEAD OF THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR

Tyne Coast College staff from South Tyneside College and TyneMet College came together for a first-of-its-kind Inspire and Innovate: Sharing Good Practice CPD Event, creating an opportunity to collaborate, share ideas and explore innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment ahead of the new academic year.

As the College prepares to welcome new and returning learners for the 2026–27 academic year, the event provided a valuable opportunity for colleagues to reflect on effective practice, learn from one another and explore practical approaches that can be taken forward into their own areas.

The event focused on creating a collaborative environment where staff could share their experiences, showcase successful approaches and consider how new ideas could enhance the learner experience.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with colleagues particularly valuing the interactive format and the opportunity to connect with staff from across Tyne Coast College.

Sharing ideas, celebrating good practice

A key feature of the event was the Teaching and Learning Champion showcase, which provided staff with practical examples of effective practice taking place across the College.

The opportunity to hear directly from colleagues and explore approaches that could be adapted to different teaching and learning environments was highlighted as a particular strength of the event.

Participants also valued the chance to explore practical resources, strategies and ideas that could be applied within their own areas.

Turning ideas into action

The event encouraged staff to think about how the ideas shared could have a direct impact on their own practice and the experience of learners. Colleagues identified a range of actions they could take forward, including new approaches to teaching, assessment and learner progress tracking, alongside strategies to strengthen inclusive practice and learner engagement.
The event also encouraged further opportunities for peer learning and collaboration, including increased interest in approaches such as Teaching Squares, supporting a culture where colleagues can learn from and with one another.

Setting the tone for the year ahead

As Tyne Coast College looks ahead to welcoming learners for the 2026-27 academic year, the Inspire and Innovate event represents an important step in preparing staff for the year ahead.

By bringing colleaugues together to share successful practice, challenge ideas and explore new approaches, the event reinforces the College’s commitment to continuous improvement, progressional learning and collaboration.

The event’s first-of-its-kind approach also provides a strong foundation for future opportunities to share good practice across South Tyneside College and TyneMet College.

With new and returning learners preparing to begin their next chapter, staff are taking forward new ideas, renewed inspiration and practical strategies to support an outstanding learner experience throughout the 2026–27 academic year.
