South Tyneside College proudly hosted its first-ever End of Year Student Awards Ceremony, celebrating the outstanding achievements, commitment and positive impact of learners from across the college.
Held at the Holiday Inn Newcastle South – Boldon, the event brought together students and staff to recognise excellence across a range of award categories. Staff nominated and shortlisted learners in recognition of their hard work, resilience, attendance, academic success and the valuable contributions they have made throughout the academic year.
Hosted by local legend Ray Spencer MBE, the afternoon was filled with celebration, reflection and recognition, marking an important milestone for the college.

Celebrating Student Achievement
The first award of the day, Outstanding Achievement, recognised exceptional performance across the college. Two students received the honour: Charlotte and Gracie.
The Attendance and Commitment Award was presented to William, who achieved an outstanding attendance record of 99.7%.
The Resilience Award recognised Adam for his determination and perseverance throughout the academic year, while the Student Contribution Award was presented to Noah in recognition of his enthusiasm, commitment to his course and positive approach to college life.
Recognising Inclusion and Community Impact
The ceremony also highlighted the college’s commitment to Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB).
The Student Champion Diversity Award celebrated learners who actively promote and champion diversity across the college community. In a rare outcome, all three shortlisted nominees were named winners: Emily, Tyler, and Morgan.
The Community Impact and Social Responsibility Award was presented to Ryan, while Abdullah received the Inclusive Culture and Belonging Award in recognition of their contribution to creating a welcoming and supportive college environment.
Student of the Year
The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the Student of the Year Award, recognising a learner who has demonstrated outstanding commitment, achievement, resilience, teamwork and a positive impact throughout their time at college. This year’s Student of the Year was Harley.
The celebration also included an interactive quiz, adding a fun and engaging element to the afternoon. Madison was crowned the quiz winner and received a prize for her success. Reflecting on the event, the college praised the dedication, determination and achievements of every student recognised throughout the ceremony. College leaders also thanked staff for their continued support, encouragement and commitment in helping learners reach their full potential and for taking the time to nominate students for the awards.
The End of Year Student Awards mark the beginning of what promises to become a valued annual tradition, celebrating the exceptional achievements of South Tyneside College students and recognising the positive difference they make to the college community.
