Hair and Beauty students from South Tyneside College are celebrating outstanding success after achieving an impressive collection of awards at the Association of Hairdressers & Therapists (AHT) National Competition in Blackpool.
Competing against talented learners from colleges across the UK, students showcased exceptional creativity, technical ability and professionalism across a range of challenging hair and beauty categories.
The College proudly brought home an incredible nine medals from the national finals:
- Jenny Sloan – 2nd Place, Facial / Day Makeup
- Leeza Faisal – 3rd Place, Asian Bridal Makeup
- Leeza Faisal – 2nd Place, Catwalk Occasion Makeup
- Charlotte Addison – 4th Place, Half Body Art
- Alice McDonald – 4th Place, Nail Art
- Taylor Thompson – 4th Place, Cut & Finish
- Lily Gardener – 2nd Place, Level 1 Blow Dry
- Ava Hall – 1st Place, Level 1 Blow Dry
- Kate Gafney – 3rd Place, Catwalk
The College was also recognised as North East Region winners for the third consecutive year, continuing its strong track record of success at the prestigious national competition.
The Association of Hairdressers & Therapists competition is designed to showcase the very best emerging talent in the industry, giving students the opportunity to perform in a professional, high-pressure environment while developing confidence, technical expertise and employability skills.
Students described the experience as “exciting, inspiring and unforgettable”, with many enjoying the opportunity to showcase their work on a national stage alongside some of the country’s most talented young hair and beauty professionals.

The success continues South Tyneside College’s strong reputation for excellence in Hair and Beauty, with students regularly achieving regional and national recognition through industry competitions and practical learning opportunities.
