T Level students get hands-on at the new build

To coincide with #NationalApprenticeshipWeek (February 9–15), we’re celebrating the exciting opportunities our T Level students will get from the construction of the new campus.

A cohort of students studying Building Services Engineering for Construction at South Tyneside College will take part in four-week block placements on the new build site from February to May. These placements will give students hands-on experience, helping them develop practical skills, build confidence, and understand the day-to-day workings of a major construction project — all while preparing for future careers in the industry.

Dr Lindsey Whiterod CBE, Chief Executive of Tyne Coast College, added:

As a college rooted in the heart of South Tyneside, we are committed to giving our learners every opportunity to progress, achieve, and take their place in the industries that shape our region. These T Level placements and apprenticeships represent exactly the kind of meaningful, hands-on experience that helps young people build confidence, gain real insight into the world of work, and begin careers with purpose.

This partnership showcases what can be achieved when education and industry work together with a shared ambition. As construction of our new campus continues at pace, it’s inspiring to see our students about to contribute to — and learn from — this transformational project that will benefit our community for generations to come.

In addition to the T Level placements, Castle is supporting the creation of five apprenticeships through its supply chain over the lifecycle of the project, highlighting the wider impact of the initiative across the region.
